Meet The Team
David Outhous, President
As president of RichPro Pest Management, Dave oversees and is responsible for the day to day operations of the company. Dave and his wife, Melissa, bought Richmond Professional Termite & Pest Control in 2007 and changed the company name to RichPro Pest Management. The decision to change the name came after a shift in the industry from treatment orientation to Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Dave received certification from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) in early 2008 and in 2009 became certified as a commercial applicator in Wood Destroying Insect Control (7B). In 2013, Dave received his General Pest Control (7A) certification.
Dave was elected to and began serving on the local Central Virginia Pest Management Association (CVPMA) board of directors in 2009. He is currently President of the CVPMA. Dave is also involved as a committee chair on the Virginia Pest Management Association (VPMA) board of directors. Originally from Philadelphia, PA, he has a degree in Computer Information Systems from Clemson University. Dave enjoys working with charities and frequently donates services to the Hanover Habitat for Humanity. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling with his family, playing golf and running half marathons.
Melissa Outhous, Treasurer & Secretary
Melissa is responsible for all the finances at RichPro Pest Management and holds the executive positions of Treasurer and Secretary of the company. She also does bookkeeping for other small businesses. Melissa was born and raised in Mechanicsville, VA and has a degree in accounting from William & Mary and an MBA in finance from Temple University. Melissa and Dave met in Philadelphia while she was working in public accounting. They moved back to Richmond in 1995 to start a family of their own and be closer to Melissa’s family. Outside of RichPro, Melissa enjoys traveling with her family, exercising and competing in triathlons. Her goal is to one day finish a full Ironman triathlon.
QualityPro is a National Pest Management Association (NPMA) program where all companies that earn this designation are required to adhere to a comprehensive set of standards. The QualityPro distinction is earned by less than 3% of companies in the United States and demonstrates our commitment to excellence and customer service.
As a QualityPro company, we are committed to providing customers with the highest caliber pest control services. Customer satisfaction is our primary goal. RichPro Pest Management has been awarded the QualityPro mark of excellence for meeting superior industry standards, including:
Practicing environmentally responsible pest control
Employing only highly trained, credentialed employees
Providing detailed information about our services
Offering a clear, easy-to-understand warranty and termite service agreement
Maintaining an up-to-date insurance policy
Advertising truthfully and ethically
Checking employee references, driving history and criminal background
Maintaining a drug-free workplace
One of the most important aspects of QualityPro companies is the commitment to provide environmentally responsible pest management. This means using integrated pest management, or IPM, to solve your pest problem. An IPM approach is focused on the removal of the three elements pests need to survive: food, water and shelter. By concentrating on the sources of these elements and eliminating them, your home becomes a less desirable place for pests and greatly reduces the likelihood of an infestation.
Participation Is The Key To Success
Our knowledge of pests and our experience managing them allows us to develop an effective IPM plan. However, IPM is always more effective when our customers are actively involved. Your knowledge of your home, observation of pest problems and cooperation will ensure the IPM program successfully rids your home of pests in the most environmentally responsible way.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost of a pest control treatment?
Pest Control treatments can vary in cost. Usually, the cost is determined by the type of service and the square footage. Give us a call today and we can provide you with more specific information in regards to pricing.
Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. We also accept cash or check.
How often do I need to have my home inspected for termites?
We recommend having your home checked for termites once a year to ensure there is no current termite activity. It does not take long for an active colony to create damage to your home.
Are RichPro technicians certified?
All our technicians are certified and registered by the Virginia Department of Agriculture. All certifications in the state of Virginia require ongoing continuing education to be maintained. The continuing education focuses on demonstrated knowledge of pest biology, pesticide safety, rules and regulations, and proper sanitation. In addition to being certified by the state, we are also a QualityPro certified company. Being QualityPro means we are even more stringent in our requirements when we hire employees.
What type of materials do you use and how toxic are they?
Most of the pesticides we use are classified as “Category III,” the lowest in toxicity. Additionally, many of the materials we use are natural oils or plant derivatives. Our goal is to only expose pests to pesticides by carefully following all of the manufacturer’s instructions as well as all rules and regulations from our licensing agencies. Even relatively non-toxic materials still require proper safety precautions.
What is Integrated Pest Management?
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an approach that focuses on the removal of the three elements pests need to survive: food, water, and shelter. By concentrating on the sources of these elements and eliminating them, your home becomes a less desirable place for pests and greatly reduces the likelihood of an infestation. The IPM approach is typically made up of these six steps:
- Inspecting the area
- Identifying the pest problem
- Selecting control methods based on the size and type of pest problem
- Employing two or more control measures
- Applying pesticides judiciously
- Evaluating the effectiveness
